An international interlaboratory test is being organized on this topic. The sample set for carrying out the experiments can be sent to interested participants on request (pallet delivery incl. calibrator). Presentation proposals for this event can be submitted by August 5, 2024 at the latest.

Carbonitriding in theory and practice

In many areas of thermochemical heat treatment of steel, carbonitriding has emerged as a process for highly stressed components, in particular for components subjected to overrolling or comparable loads. In the past, carbonitriding was mainly used to increase the hardness or hardenability of unalloyed steels. For this purpose, a fixed percentage of ammonia was added to a carburizing atmosphere at relatively low temperatures of approx. 870 °C. The ammonia was added to the carbonitrided steel.

The meeting of the AWT Technical Committee 11 "Quenching" will take place at the Hardening Congress in Cologne. Among other things, reports will be given on the research project "Polymer Quenching II", which is being accompanied by Prof. Fritsching and Dr. Lübben from Leibniz-IWT Bremen.

The 80th HärtereiKongress of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Wärmebehandlung und Werkstofftechnik e. V., AWT, will take place in Cologne from October 8 to 10, 2024.

The AWT seminars are an important component of the AWT training program. The seminars provide important basic knowledge on the individual specialist topics. The limited number of participants ensures an intensive exchange and individual treatment of questions.
