Relationships between manufacturing, purity, and component properties. Methods for measuring and evaluating macroscopic and microscopic purity—testing standards

From the perspective of manufacturers and users, component failure—such as in an engine or transmission—represents an undesirable and costly problem. The necessary replacement of the affected components can result in significant financial losses and damage to the company’s reputation. In addition to the occurrence of overloads, the type and quantity of nonmetallic inclusions present in the material are also factors that contribute to damage. By selecting the appropriate material and manufacturing process, the effects of nonmetallic inclusions can be better controlled, and the quality of the final product improved.

The goal of this online seminar is to explain the relationships between manufacturing, purity, and component properties, and to familiarize participants with the measurement and evaluation methods for macroscopic and microscopic purity based on testing standards (SEP 1927, SEP 1571, DIN 50602, ASTM, and ISO) and extreme evaluation methods.
